The place
About Merrion Strand
Merrion beach is a sandy beach with a gradual slope which makes the water too shallow for any real swimming. There is a large inlet of water that remains even at low tide and is known locally as "Cockle Lake". Public access is recorded, but the usable shore and final approach can still change with tide, weather and local conditions. Treat it as unserviced: do not assume parking, toilets or lifeguard cover, and check tide, weather and sea conditions before entering the water.
