Sheltered sandy cove on St John's Point
St John's Point Beach is a sheltered sandy cove on the eastern side of the long Donegal Bay peninsula. Visitors consistently mention its clear water, quiet setting and walk toward the lighthouse, but also report a very narrow approach, only a few parking spaces and no public toilets. Farther along the point stands St John's Point Lighthouse, designed by George Halpin and first lit in 1831. The lighthouse compound and surrounding farmland are separate from the beach, so follow gates and signs and do not assume vehicle access beyond the public stopping place.
