Golden-sand surf beach below the Burren hills
Fanore Beach is a broad sweep of golden sand below the Burren's limestone hills on Galway Bay. Clare County Council lists a designated swimming area, accessible access and parking, drinking water, first aid, lifebuoys, seasonal lifeguards, picnic space, showers and toilets. The beach is also well established for surfing. At low tide, stepped limestone and Carboniferous fossils can be seen among the darker rocks; check tide and weather conditions and leave the fossils in place.
